Rensselaer Defeated by Bulldogs in Season Finale

Box Score

NEW HAVEN, CT -- Alec Richards stopped all 21 shots he faced to lead Yale to a 3-0 win over the Rensselaer men's hockey team in the regular season finale for both teams.  With the win, the Bulldogs finish in seventh place in the ECAC Hockey standings and will host the tenth place Engineers in a best-of-three, first round league playoff series next weekend.

Junior Mathias Lange (Klagenfurt, Austria) stopped 31 of the 33 shots he faced for the Engineers but it wasn't enough as the Elis scored once in the second period and twice in the third.  Yale's third goal was into an empty net.  Richards finished with nine saves in the first period, four in the second and eight in the third for the shutout.

Offensively for the Bulldogs, Broc Little opened the scoring early in the second period just 10 seconds into a power play.  Yale then got a goal from Patrick Brosnihan at 6:25 of the final frame before Will Engasser tallied unassisted with under a minute remaining.

RPI finishes the regular season with an 11-21-4 overall record and a 6-13-3 league mark.  The Bulldogs are now 13-12-4 and 9-9-4.
