Dekanich Ties Record in Colgate Victory
HAMILTON, N.Y. -- Colgate University senior goaltender Mark
Dekanich (North Vancouver, B.C.) made 18 saves to earn his eighth
career shutout in a 5-0 win over visiting Brown on Saturday, Jan.
26, at Starr Rink. With the blanking, Dekanich ties former teammate
Steve Silverthorn for the Colgate career shutouts record. The
win puts the Raiders back at .500 on the year (10-10-4, 4-5-3 ECAC
Hockey), while the Bears extend their winless streak to 15 games
(1-14-4, 1-8-3 ECAC Hockey).
Sophomore David McIntyre (Pefferlaw, Ont.) led the Raider offense
with two goals and an assist. Senior captain Jesse Winchester (Long
Sault, Ont.), junior Mark Anderson (Hastings, Neb.)
and sophomore Jason Williams (Plattsburgh, N.Y.) all had a
goal and an assist.
The game was the 100th of Dekanich's career, which ties him for
second with Silverthorn among Raider goalies all-time. In addition
to tying the shutouts record, Dekanich moved into second place on
Colgate's career saves list this weekend, passing Dan Brenzavich
(1995-98), and he now has 2,608 career stops.
Colgate plays its annual home-and-home series with travel partner
Cornell next weekend. The teams square off at Lynah Rink on Friday,
Feb. 1, and they meet at Starr Rink on Saturday for the rematch.
Both games begin at 7:00 p.m., and both contests will be televised
live on Time Warner Sports in Upstate New York.
