Winchester Scores 100th Career Point in Tie with No. 12 Clarkson
HAMILTON, N.Y. -- Colgate senior captain
Jesse Winchester (Long Sault, Ont.) scored the game-tying goal in a
1-1 tie with No. 12 Clarkson (12-7-2, 7-3-1 ECAC Hockey) on
Friday, Jan. 18, at a sold-out Starr Rink. The goal was
Winchester's 100th career point, making him the 47th Raider to
achieve that milestone.
Colgate senior goaltender Mark Dekanich (North Vancouver, B.C.)
kept his team in the game by making 36 saves, including 16 in the
second period as his team was outshot 17-8. Clarkson senior David
Leggio finished the game with 26 saves.
Clarkson got on the board midway through the second period with a
power-play goal. Chris D'Alvise took a shot from the right point
which was deflected in front of the net by Nick Dodge. Dekanich
stopped the shot, but New Hartford native Steve Zalewski was left
open on the left side, and he swept in the rebound low on the stick
side.
The Raiders (8-9-4, 2-4-3 ECAC Hockey) responded with a power-play
goal of their own 3:59 into the third period. Senior Tyler Burton
(Langley, B.C.) won the faceoff to Winchester, who one-timed a pass
to freshman Kevin McNamara (Chestnut Hill, Mass.) on the right
point. McNamara skated to the opposite side, and shot from the left
dot. The rebound came to Winchester in front of the crease, and he
put it past Leggio, through traffic, high on the glove side.
Colgate earned a 46-36 advantage on faceoffs, paced by senior Ben
Camper (Rocky River, Ohio), who won all nine of the draws he
attempted. The Raiders were 1-for-5 on the power play, while the
Golden Knights finished 1-for-4.
Colgate is back on the ice at Starr Rink on Saturday, Jan. 19, when
it hosts St. Lawrence at 7:00 p.m. Fans can purchase tickets to the
