Princeton Reels Off Fifth-Straight Win at Brown
PROVIDENCE, RI -- The trio of Brett Wilson, Lee Jubinville
and Mike Kramer combined for four goals and 10 points as the
Princeton men's hockey team powered past Brown 6-2 on Saturday
night at Meehan Auditorium. The win is Princeton's fifth in a row
as the Tigers retained their spot atop the ECAC Hockey
standings.
Brown took the game's first four shots, but Princeton scored the
game's first goal when freshman Mike Kramer found the back of the
net at 3:23. The goal was set up on the forecheck as junior Brett
Wilson got a piece of Brown defenseman Matt Palmer behind the Bear
net, which left the puck for Wilson, who made a feed from behind
the net to Kramer on the doorstep for the goal, his fourth of the
year and third in four games.
Princeton extended its lead to 2-0 at 12:14 when Wilson scored his
sixth goal of the season. Kramer started the play with a long lead
pass that junior Lee Jubinville tracked down and sent to Wilson,
who was coming in at the far post. Wilson quickly redirected the
shot into the wide-open goal to make the score 2-0 in Princeton's
favor.
Brown cut the lead in half when Chris Poli scored 11 seconds into
the second period but Princeton scored three times in a four-minute
span to take a 5-1 lead after two periods. First, it was Jubinville
getting his seventh of the season on the power play when he
deflected a point shot by freshman Cam Ritchie. Wilson notched an
assist on the goal as he won the faceoff to get the puck to
Ritchie.
Princeton continued to pressure and at 13:16 made it 4-1 when
sophomore Kevin Kaiser scored off the rush as a Brown penalty
expired. His third goal of the season was assisted by junior
Brandan Kushniruk and sophomore Jody Pederson, who now has assists
in four-straight games. Nine seconds later, Princeton made it 5-1
as sophomore Cam MacIntyre netted his 10th goal of the season,
stuffing in the rebound of his own shot. Sophomores Mark Magnowski
and Dan Bartlett set up the goal.
Brown scored the first goal of the third period to make the score
5-2, but Kramer countered with his second goal of the night at 6:14
to make the score 6-2 where it finished. Jubinville and Wilson set
up the goal.
Princeton outshot Brown 58-25 in the game, passing the 50-shot mark
or the first time since registering 51 in a Nov. 18, 2006 loss to
Colgate. Princeton sophomore netminder Zane Kalemba made 23 saves
for the win, while Mark Sibbald made 52 saves in the loss.
Princeton last won five games in a row in the 1947-48 season when
the Tigers opened the season with five straight wins. Princeton was
last unbeaten in five games back in the 1998-99 season in their run
through the ECAC playoffs.
The Tigers are now 10-8-0 overall and 8-4-0 in ECAC Hockey and
remain atop the league standings. Princeton is now off for 17 days
before resuming its schedule on Jan. 29 at Robert Morris.
