Princeton Rolls Past Colgate
BoxscorePRINCETON -- Junior Lee Jubinville and freshmen Kevin Lohry and Mike Kramer each recorded three points as the 15th-ranked Princeton men's hockey team defeated Colgate 7-2 on Friday night at Hobey Baker Rink. Princeton's win, combined with a Clarkson tie, moved the Tigers within a point of first place.
Colgate entered the game having shut out its last three opponents, but Princeton got to the Raiders early when Kramer scored his eighth goal of the season on a breakaway from Lohry and senior Landis Stankievech at 5:02. Colgate evened the score midway through the period when Peter Bogdanich scored.
Princeton pulled ahead for good in the second period as Jubinville scored twice in a 3:16 span. First he scored at 3:59 on a quick shot through the legs of Colgate netminder Mark Dekanich, then he scored shorthanded on a breakaway after junior Brett Wilson sprung him with the breakaway pass. Sophomore Jody Pederson assisted on both goals. Colgate got a goal back on a delayed penalty from Jason Fredericks, but Princeton took a 3-2 lead to the locker room and blew the game open with four goals in the third period.
In the final period, sophomore Taylor Fedun began the scoring when his shot deflected off a Colgate defender on the power play after Jubinville fed him with a centering pass. Sophomore Cam MacIntyre also assisted on the goal.
Junior Kevin Kaiser made it 5-2 Princeton at 6:15 of the period when he skated into the Colgate zone 3 on 1. Lohry and Kramer set up the goal. Lohry then got on the scoreboard late in the period from Kaiser and Kramer, and junior Brett Wilson capped the scoring at 19:11 on a breakaway from sophomore Mark Magnowski and senior Mike Moore.
Princeton outshot Colgate 43-17. Princeton sophomore netminder Zane Kalemba made 15 saves for the win, while Dekanich and Charles Long combined for 36 saves in the loss.
Princeton moved to 16-10-0 overall and 13-7-0 in the ECAC Hockey. Princeton is back in action tomorrow against Cornell.
