Colgate Names Captains for 2007-08 Season
HAMILTON, N.Y. (4/1/07) - The Colgate University men's hockey team announced its captains for the 2007-08 season at its annual awards banquet on Saturday, Mar. 31, at the Colgate Inn in Hamilton. Junior Jesse Winchester (Long Sault, Ont.) will wear a "C" and serve as team captain, while juniors Tyler Burton (Langley, B.C.) and Dustin Gillanders (Kyle, Sask.) along with sophomore Nick St. Pierre (St. Etienne, Que.) will wear the "A" as assistant captains.
Winchester served as an assistant captain during the 2006-07 campaign, and was one of the Raiders' most steady contributors on offense. He earned a spot on the all-ECACHL second team at the end of the season after posting 37 points on 16 goals and 21 assists in 37 games. Winchester was among the league's leaders in points scored during conference games with 28 points in 22 ECACHL contests.
Burton also served as an assistant captain as a junior. The three-time all-ECACHL center led Colgate in scoring with 40 points on 18 goals and 22 assists in 40 games during the 2006-07 season. He paced the Raiders with a +9 rating, and was one of the team's most consistent players in the faceoff circle with a .573 winning percentage.
Gillanders returned to the team for the 2006-07 season after missing a year with a knee injury. One of Colgate's most dominent phsyical presences on the ice, Gillanders led the team in penalty minutes with 78, but also contributed seven points on a goal and six assists.
St. Pierre will don an "A" for a full season after earning the letter midway through his sophomore campaign. Recognized by his teammates as the Raiders' leader on the blue line, St. Pierre was Colgate's fourth-leading scorer this season with 23 points on seven goals and 16 assists. A steady contributor at both ends of the ice, St. Pierre also led the Raiders in blocked shots with 60 while playing in all 40 games.
Colgate completed the 2006-07 season with a 15-21-4 overall record, and a 7-12-3 mark in ECACHL play. The Raiders hosted a league playoff series for the fifth straight year before ending the season in the ECACHL quarterfinals.
