Frozen Four Skills Challenge: East Beats West On Paiano's Shot

MILWAUKEE, Wis. -- After the five scheduled events in the inaugural Frozen Four Skills Challenge, the score was tied at nine points each and a lengthy penalty-shot shootout ended it with Colgate's Allison Paiano netting the winner for an East victory.

In the first event, Kyle Wilson helped the East earn a point as the anchor of the puck control relay. The East then claimed another point in the fastest skater competition, with Dartmouth's Mike Ouellette netting the fastest time among the men at 15.0 seconds.

Harvard's Jennifer Raimondi also picked up an East point when she recorded the hardest shot among the women, registering at 77 mph. Wilson and Trevelyan also shot for the men, recording 90 and 87 mph shots, respectively, helping the East win the team average point.

It was then time for the goalies to shine in the rapid shot competition. Paiano, Raimondi and Brown's Margaret Ramsey helped take down the West goalies, combining for seven goals. Yale's Sarah Love stopped 20 of the 24 shots she faced, which helped the East earn one point.

On the men's side, the West claimed the point however, Wilson, Cornell's Matt Moulson, St. Lawrence's T.J. Trevelyan and Dartmouth's Mike Ouellette all tried their best to score. Harvard's John Daigneau stopped 18 of the 24 shots he faced in the event.

In the penalty shot event Moulson and Ouellette each scored for the East in the final round to tie the Challenge up, sending it to the sudden death shootout, where Paiano scored in the seventh round for the East win.
